NHS Herts Valleys CCG reinstate funding for IVF

Effective from the 1st April 2019, Herts Valleys clinical commissioning group (CCG) have decided to reinstate funding for one IVF cycle for eligible couples. In October 2017, the CCG took the decision to withdraw funding for IVF when it was placed in formal financial turnaround. This week’s decision reinstates the CCG’s funding which was in place prior to October 2017.

The CCG’s board felt that they could take this decision because the organisation’s financial position has improved from 2017. Reinstating the policy will bring Herts Valleys’ IVF provision in line with neighbouring CCGs.

Kathryn Magson, chief executive of Herts Valleys CCG says: “The consultation we undertook in 2017 gave us a clear view that many people are keen for us to make routine funding of IVF available on the NHS for people who meet our clinical criteria.

“This year, we have continued to maintain a strong financial position. When we reviewed the policy six months ago, we were concerned about the pressures the NHS may face during this winter period, but we have managed these pressures. After delivering two years of financial balance, the CCG is now in a position where it can reinvest in services like this.”
