Scottish Fertility Options day a success!

Fertility Network Scotland were delighted to organise and host our annual Scottish Fertility Options day on Saturday 6th May 2017 in Glasgow.

Information is vital no matter where you are on your journey and being informed will help you cope better with the ‘Fertility Rollercoaster’.  It brings people together who may be experiencing the same difficulties and concerns and provides a wonderful opportunity to have some previously unanswered questions addressed.

We had a superb range of guest speakers and exhibitors tailored to addressing an extensive range of topics relating to Fertility. They travelled voluntarily from right across the country and Europe to provide people on their journey with facts, information and the latest developments. Delegates were able to speak face to face with professionals, counsellors, nutritionist, embryologist and much more.

RACHAEL FORREST

Boost Fertility, Health and Wellness – The Natural Fertility Centre

Rachael has been qualified in acupuncture for seventeen years. She has developed a very successful acupuncture practice with a thorough understanding of western medicine and up-to-date research.  After years of working with pregnant patients she set up the Natural Fertility Centre which has allowed her to specialise further in treating fertility issues with acupuncture.


Dr Sarah Martins da Silva

Improving the odds of IVF working for you

Dr Sarah Martins da Silva is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer based at Ninewells Assisted Conception Unit and the University of Dundee. She is involved in translational research focused around male infertility, sperm biology and drug discovery. She also runs a sperm studies research clinic for couples affected by unexplained total failed (or low <25%) fertilisation following IVF/ICSI, which accepts national referrals.

Her talk focused on current evidence-based clinical practice and the potential dilemmas posed by emerging scientific evidence in a fast-moving, and constantly evolving speciality.


Alison Elliot, Infertility Counsellor

I Hate Pregnant Women – The Psychological Impact of Infertility

Alison has over 20 years’ experience working in counselling and has extensive knowledge about all aspects of infertility. She has worked within the NHS for 10 years and is currently part of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary Counselling Service.

She also works in private practice offering counselling and supervision. She is an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling, the Psychotherapy (BACP), a member of British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA) and the Scottish Counselling Infertility Group.


Rachel Gregoire, Consultant Clinical Embryologist

Innovations in Embryo Research – Do They really make a difference?

Rachel has worked in the field of embryology for 18 years. She is based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary as Consultant Embryologist and Person Responsible and strives to lead the scientific service in delivering cutting edge techniques with a continuing improvement to success rates.

The fertility rollercoaster, a patient’s experience

Elaine and her husband were trying to conceive for two years before realising they needed professional help. During that time, Elaine found online forums and organisations like Fertility Network invaluable as a source of information and support whilst trying to navigate through the emotional highs and lows of the whole rollercoaster journey of fertility.  Elaine is a classroom support assistant for South Lanarkshire Council.
