Good news on IVF waiting times in Scotland

With support of the Scottish Government, IVF provision in Scotland continues to be the most equitable and fair in the UK. Patients in Scotland are offered up to 3 cycles of treatment where it will be clinically effective, with the same criteria being applied to all patients regardless of where they live.

The Scottish Government had also recognised that waiting times were a crucial part of treatment for patients and set a target for at least 90% of eligible patients to commence IVF treatment within 12 months. During the quarter ending June 2017 99.8% of patients were screened for treatment within that timescale. Four fifths of patients were screened within 182 days.

The Scottish Government has determined that the IVF waiting times target should be delivered for at least 90% of patients, as for some patients it may not be clinically appropriate for treatment to begin within the target’s time. This target continues to be met since it was first measured in March 2015.
