Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine changes update

From the end of November 2017, North Bristol trust will no longer provide specialist fertility services such as IVF and ICSI from the Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM) at Southmead hospital in Bristol.
A decision will be made in the coming months about who will be the new provider for the IVF services currently provided by BCRM at Southmead hospital in Bristol. A consultation about the recommissioning of the specialist fertility services and the service specifications will run until 30 June 2017. You can register your views at

It is possible that a new provider or providers could take over the current IVF centre in Bristol and then patients would not have to travel further distances.
It is also possible another provider in Bristol or the surrounding areas could take over the current IVF service; in this scenario it is possible patients may have to travel to alternative locations.
Unfortunately for patients, whatever happens there will be a few months of uncertainty until a decision is taken about who the new provider of fertility services will be.
BCRM has said that patients currently having treatment or in treatment planning will be able to complete their cycles, and gametes and embryos currently in storage at the centre will continue to be stored by a licensed regulated provider.
General infertility services, including fertility assessment, investigations and surgery will continue to be provided.
